Academic Success

Northcote College has achieved outstanding results in the elite Scholarship examination. Scholarship is a competitive award which is aimed at the top 5% of students nationally.

2006:  24 subject scholarships. Six outstanding scholarships

2007:  26 subject scholarships. Five outstanding scholarships

2008:  16 subject scholarships. Two outstanding scholarships

2009:   21 subject scholarships. One outstanding scholarship

2010    32 subject scholarships, Four outstanding scholarships. One Top in New Zealand

2012    22 Subject scholarships

First in the world in Spanish Vocabulary Olympics 2009

Bronze medal in the World Chemistry Olympiad 2006

Well Qualified Staff

Well qualified staff includes two teachers with doctorates and two teachers who have written national history and biology textbooks. Four teachers were nominated for Excellence in Teaching Awards 2009.  

Biology teacher Dr Kit Hustler gained a Wai Care award for his study of the local environment, 2010.

Spanish Teacher, Susan Henshall gained the Ministry of Education/AFS Language Immersion Award, 2010. Ms Henshall will spend 2011 assisting at a Spanish school.

 Alumni

Northcote College students have achieved national and international success. Students go on to undergraduate and postgraduate study at universities around the world.

Other alumni include Hamish Spencer, world renowned geneticist who is a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand. Robert Aspden, Rhodes Scholar 1960, Nathan Haines and Hollie Smith who are internationally recognised musicians, Michael Parekowhai is a well respected New Zealand artist. Rodrick Page is Professor of Taxonomy, University of Glasgow.

Richard Carpenter and Bevan Cheeseman were awarded Auckland University Postgraduate Diploma Scholarships in 2009.

Miller Christensen-Yule gained entry to the London Drum and Percussion School, England in 2010.
