Tapa and Fine Mat Gifted to College.
Mrs Lesieli Makasini, mother of Year 13 pupil Latu Makasini, made these traditional cloths as a gift to the school.
These two beautiful creations by Mrs Makasini were gifted to the school in a gesture of appreciation and respect.
Latu Makasini leaves Northcote College with a desire to further her studies at University in 2013. Latu received the Prize in Hospitality as well as the Kent Kava Bowl for Pasifika Leadership; a Senior Special Award presented at the Northcote College prize giving ceremony. She has been active in the Pacific Island Group, Pacific Island Performance Group and was in the rugby girls 1st XV. Latu also participated in the 2012 athletics.
Mrs Makasini has been weaving since a young age and is obviously talented. Latu estimates that the Tapa took a year to create and the colourful Fine Mat was made in about four weeks.
Preparation is underway to display these beautiful gifts on Northcote College walls in 2013.
