Course Directory

The Course Directory sets out the Northcote College Year 10-13 school curriculum, the criteria for advancement through the levels in each subject, as well as providing a brief description of the course content and assessment.

This Course Directory sets out the Northcote College Year 10-13 school curriculum, the criteria for advancement through the levels in each subject, as well as providing a brief description of the course content and assessment.  It is designed to assist students and parents to make the appropriate course selection.  Our goal is that each student should reach his/her maximum academic potential in their time with us, and leave with the best qualifications possible, to pursue higher education and achieve their career goals.

The National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) allows students to individualise programmes to suit their interest and strengths. It is important to plan educational pathways with care, ensuring the literacy and numeracy and other requirements for University Entrance are met.

In recent years NZ universities have consistently imposed more stringent entry requirements for many of their courses and there are implications for those students currently in Year 9 – 12. Key requirements are outlined in the front section of the Course Directory but for detailed information we recommend that students look at the university websites.

As you read this directory, you will notice that the range of subjects on offer is designed to cater for the wide range of student needs.  Ideally students will keep a broad subject choice for as long as possible as increasingly tertiary educational institutions are looking for evidence that students have achieved well in a range of subjects.
