Change to school start time on Wednesdays in Terms 2, 3 and 4
Professional learning for teachers is key to continuous improvement at Northcote College. All teachers are engaged in professional learning groups (PLGs). The reflection, collaboration and changes to teaching practice which result from teachers working together has proven to be a powerful driver of positive change at the school. It has become apparent that even more could be achieved with more quality time for teachers to meet together to undertake this important work.
We are changing the start time for students on Wednesdays in Terms 2, 3 and 4. This change is to increase the opportunity for teachers to meet in PLGs. Our plan is for teachers to meet in their PLGs from 8:15am each Wednesday morning to pursue the student achievement challenges they have identified. We can achieve this significant increase in quality time for teacher collaboration by beginning teaching time on a Wednesday at 9:30am. Class times on Wednesday will be:
Period 1 9.30 – 10.15am
Period 2 10.15 – 11.00am
Times return to normal from 11am
While classes will not begin on Wednesdays until 9:30am, the school will be open and buses will run as usual. Students are welcome to access student areas including the library.
The first day of the new start time will be Week 1 Term II, Wednesday 2 May.
This change will be a trial for 2018 which we will review towards the end of the year as we plan for 2019.
