Measles

Measles is a serious and highly infectious viral disease which can make people very sick. Please notify the School Nurse of any confirmed cases of measles within Northcote College.

The Ministry of Health is currently receiving an increase in the number of notifications of measles cases around the country. This is a serious and highly infectious viral disease which can make people very sick.

If your child has not been immunised, please call your GP as soon as possible to receive their immunisation.

Early symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, sore red eyes, and white spots inside the mouth. After 3-5 days, a rash appears on the head, and moves down the body. Some people develop more serious complications like ear infections and pneumonia.

The Ministry of Health requires students who have no proven immunity to measles, (through immunisation or previous exposure), to be sent home if there is a measles outbreak in their class.

Immunisation is free. If your child is unwell, please call your GP or Healthline on 0800 611 116, as soon as symptoms appear.

Please notify the School Nurse of any confirmed cases of measles within Northcote College.
