The Ministry of Health is currently receiving a significant increase in the number of notifications of measles cases around the country. This is a serious and highly infectious viral disease which can make people very sick.
If your child has not been immunised, please call your GP as soon as possible to receive their immunisation.
Early symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, sore red eyes, and white spots inside the mouth. After 3-5 days, a rash appears on the head, and moves down the body. Some people develop more serious complications like ear infections and pneumonia.
If your child becomes unwell with these symptoms, please DON’T send them to school. Please DO phone your GP, and arrange for your child to be seen by your family doctor straight away, or ring Healthline on 0800 611 116, as soon as symptoms appear.
The Ministry of Health requires students who have no proven immunity to measles, (through immunisation or previous exposure), to be sent home if there is a measles outbreak in their class.
Immunisation is FREE.
Please notify the School Nurse of any confirmed cases of measles within Northcote College. Please Ph 481 0141 Extn 759 to speak to the Nurse, or leave a voice message, and we will return your call.
