Term Update 4/11/22
Term Update 4/11/22
It has been a busy week with the announcement of 2023 prefects, farewelling our senior students who are now on examination leave, and celebrating academic achievement at the senior prizegiving. Senior reports are being sent electronically today.
The NZQA examination period is from 7 November to 2 December. We wish seniors who are sitting examinations every success and encourage them to use their time wisely as they prepare. Seniors know that they are welcome to contact teachers to clarify understanding in advance of the examinations. The full NCEA examination timetable is available on the school website.
Students in Years 9 and 10 have their examinations in Week 5 (14-18 November). The exam schedule with details has been emailed to students who are also reminded to make the most of their study time. We wish them all the best for this learning experience.
Flexible Learning Day
As per the year calendar, we have a FLD on Friday 11 November so there will be no timetabled lessons. Students are welcome to study at home or in the library at school. Staff are involved in professional learning. Teachers are available to support students (in person or online) periods 1 and 5. As teachers prepare for the changes to the New Zealand Curriculum, much of our focus will be on understanding and feeding back on Te Mātaiaho | A draft Te Tiriti-Honouring and Inclusive Curriculum Framework. Here is the link to this resource for your reference.
Paid Union Meeting
There is a Paid Union Meeting for teachers on Friday 2 December (Week 7) from 1-3pm, so there will be no timetabled lessons for juniors that afternoon.
Seniors should have returned all resource material and sports equipment and uniforms. Students in Years 9 and 10 are asked to return all books, sports uniforms and other borrowed equipment by Wednesday 30 November. Lockers should also be emptied and all outstanding fees paid, please.
Homestay families needed
We need more homestay families. The opening of the borders has meant a surge of interest from overseas students. For the start of 2023, we will have international students here from Peru, Chile, Italy, Germany, Thailand, Vietnam. Japan, China, Tahiti and New Caledonia. Students are here for between two weeks and a full year.
If you can help, please contact Cici Xu at the international office for more details: firstname.lastname@example.org
We will celebrate the academic achievement of students in Year 9 and 10 on Wednesday 7 December 10am in our school gym.
Second hand uniform sale
If you have uniform items you would like to sell, please take them to the main office in a bag with your name and phone number. Details of the 2023 second hand uniform sale will be shared at the beginning of next year. Any donated uniforms are also gratefully accepted.
The yearbook will be available for collection from Harakeke | Student Reception from Tuesday 6 December. The cost is $25 which can be paid anytime before the end of the year.
