Non-Uniform Day and Road Safety

Non-Uniform Day and Road Safety

The next full school newsletter will be sent in the last week of term. There are two important messages to share before then.

Road Safety
Yesterday, we met with a Senior Transportation Engineer in the Road Safety Team at Auckland Transport to discuss the safety of students on Onewa Road. We shared our concerns about bus overcrowding, congestion at bus stops, and speed of vehicles. There are some actions, like longer phasing of red lights for pedestrian crossings, that may happen soon. Other proposed changes around moving crossings and lights on Onewa Road require further investigation and will take time.

While we were out on Onewa Road after school with the engineer observing pedestrians and motorists, there were a number of instances of our students engaging in risky behaviour on the road. On rainy days like today when the roads are slick and students are wearing jackets with hoods, there is greater danger. We urge you to keep having conversations with your child/ren about making responsible decisions and the need to use crossings, especially on Onewa Road. Thank you for your support to reinforce this road safety message.

Non-Uniform Day: Friday 20 March
Every term we have a non-uniform day to raise funds for a charity as nominated and voted on by the Student Council. Next Friday, the 20th March, our non-uniform day will raise funds for Volunteer Firefighters. Please give generously. Donations may be made online at MyKindo or by students giving cash to their period 1 teacher.
