Junior Volleyball Boys

North Island Championships

On the 23rd November our Junior Boys Volleyball team headed to Tauranga to compete at the North Island Junior Volleyball Championships. The 10 boys were grateful to be given the opportunity to attend this tournament and travel out of Auckland.

Unfortunately, the team lost a player before the games had even begun. Jack Clendon broke 2 of his fingers in  warm up on day 1. Regardless of this disadvantage, the boys played exceptionally well with spirit and passion.

Over the 4 days of competition, the boys managed to come 13th overall. This is an incredible result for a team of players who have never been to a North Island Tournament before and many players who had never played volleyball before this season.

Thank you very much to the head coach Rachel Elisaia-Hopa who has dedicated so much time and effort to our volleyball teams and enabled all of our junior and senior players to improve an incredible amount and made the most of every opportunity.

Thank you also to Mira Sumantri  who did an amazing job managing the team and to her and her husband who organised and cooked all the beautiful dinners that boys got the privilege to enjoy.

Lastly, thank you to Ivy and Taurima who went down as referees and extra assistance on the trip.
