PPTA Industrial Action: full strike Wednesday 20 August
PPTA Industrial Action: full strike Wednesday 20 August
The Post Primary Teachers’ Association (PPTA) has given preliminary notice of a full strike for secondary school teachers on Wednesday 20 August. With a high percentage of our staff being union members on strike, we cannot safely stay open for instruction, so we ask you to keep students at home on that day.
The statutory notice period for unions is three days, so we will confirm this strike action on Monday 18 August.
There are also partial strikes planned for Week 10. This means PPTA members will not teach, instruct, or supervise students in certain year levels but will continue to teach all other students. Teachers will also continue to do administrative work in the time that they would usually have been teaching students in the affected year levels. The following plan requires these cohorts to stay home:
- Monday 15 September - Years 12 & 13
- Tuesday 16 September - Year 11
- Wednesday 17 September - Year 10
- Thursday 18 September - Year 9
We understand and appreciate the difficulties this disruption will place on you. Planned industrial action could be suspended or withdrawn if there is significant progress made in negotiations.
Please do not hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions. Contact your child’s dean in the first instance.
