Start of Term 4 Newsletter - 6 October 2025

Tēnā koe

I hope your whānau enjoyed the break from school and is ready for a productive and successful Term 4. This term is busy with final learning modules, NZQA assessments, Year 9 camps, and we are already looking ahead to end of year celebrations.

Northcote College Board election
We are delighted to announce the results of the Northcote College Board election and introduce our Board 2025-2028.
Parent Representatives: Leanne Barlow, Trina Lincoln, Viliami Puliuvea, Chris Eng, Guy Wilson
Staff Representative: Kelli Kawhia-Conrad
Student Representative: Payasvi Sharma

Thank you to all who stood for election and congratulations to the successful candidates. Very many thanks too to our board members who have served for the past three-year term.

Measles
You may be aware from the media about recent measles cases in Aotearoa. Measles is very contagious and can make people of any age very sick. Watch for measles symptoms: fever, cough, runny nose, sore eyes and a blotchy rash. If anyone in your whānau has measles symptoms, keep them home and contact a doctor or Healthline urgently on 0800 611 116. Vaccination is the best protection from measles. Information is available here: https://info.health.nz/conditions-treatments/infectious-diseases/about-measles/measles-immunity

Building project update
We are pleased that the renovation of the gym is complete and that teaching and learning can resume there again. We are excited that the new classroom building is on track to be completed next month ready for classes in 2026.

Attendance
Regular attendance at school is important for your child's success and there is a clear connection between going to school regularly and doing well in the classroom. Making sure students attend and engage in learning is a shared responsibility. As a parent, you are responsible for making sure your child attends school every day.

The Ministry of Education’s Stepped Attendance Response (STAR) system is to encourage regular student attendance. Part of this response includes the ministry uplifting our attendance data daily. We continue to monitor attendance as a priority. It is essential that your child is at school on time and that if your child is absent, the Attendance Officer is notified with an explanation either by emailing attendance@northcote.school.nz calling 09 481 0141 ext.750 or via Parent Portal.

NZQA examinations
NZQA examinations for our students in Years 11-13 begin on Tuesday 4 November and run through until Friday 28 November. Here is a link to the exam timetable:

Parent donation
We rely on and are grateful for all donations which ensure that our students have the resources and support they need to achieve academically and also have opportunities to participate and thrive in sport, cultural groups, performing arts, leadership and service. Any payment or contribution through myKindo, in full or in an adjusted amount per term to suit your budget, helps us to continue to offer current opportunities and resources for your children. Please pay your donation if you are able.

Year 9 camps to Motutapu Island
We wish the first group of Year 9 campers well; they go to Motutapu Island next week. The second group goes in Week 8. Please check all communication from Louise Inwards with details.
