The courses students select are crucial to their future so it is important that careful thought is given to their future direction. The further students go in the senior school, the more difficult it becomes to change that direction. That is why the best advice is to keep as broad a range of subjects for as long as possible. For each subject chosen, students need to think carefully about where it will lead, and whether it fits in with their intended career or study path.
Pathways Day is an annual event at Northcote College designed to assist students selecting their academic subject options and planning their pathway through college and beyond.
The school timetable runs as usual. Students in Years 9 - 12 work with Form Teachers and Peer Support Leaders during an extended form period where they are issued Option Choice forms and given critical information to help plan their school courses for 2018. They are able to view the available courses in the Hall and speak with subject specialist teachers at interval, lunchtime and at 3.30pm.
The evening session 6.00pm – 7.00pm for parents and students to attend is a wonderful opportunity to speak with subject specialists and tertiary providers. There will also be a number of tertiary providers who can assist with planning beyond school including representatives from NZ universities, BCITO, The NZ Defence Force and others.
