2026 DUX - Varen Wilson
Congratulations to Varen Wilson – was announced as Northcote College 2026 Dux at last night’s Senior Prizegiving.
Dux is awarded to the top academic student in a school. Being awarded the title of Dux means that the student’s achievement across all subjects has been exceptional. That is certainly true of this year’s recipient.
Varen’s list of achievements this year has indeed been very impressive:
Eddy Sanders Award for Senior Biology
Hopkins Cup for Chemistry
William Kells Cup for Outstanding Senior Science Student
University of Auckland Top Achiever Scholarship
Prize in Biology
Prize in Chemistry
Prize in Japanese
Prize in Physics
Excellent Achievement in Calculus
In introducing Varen as this year’s ultimate scholar, Deputy Principal Kate Meade noted that:
- Varen received straight NCEA Excellences this year - an impressive grade point average – a perfect score of 1. His grade point average for school assessments this year was also a perfect 1. Last year his grade point average was 0.97 with an overall Level 2 Excellence Endorsement and six straight Excellence subject endorsements
- This evening, Varen received four Level 3 subject prizes – which means he was top in that course – in Biology, Chemistry, Japanese, and Physics. He received Excellence recognition in his fifth subject – Calculus. He also received academic trophies – in Biology, Chemistry, and Science.
- Varen won a New Zealand Scholarship in English in 2025, as a Year 12 student – and this year has been recognised with a University of Auckland Top Achiever Scholarship.
Congratulations again Varen! We look forward to following what we are certain will be more academic success and a stellar career.
