World Vision Youth Conference
Six Northcote Year 11 and 12 students enjoyed an incredible day at the World Vision Youth Conference! The event aims to empower high school student leaders and inspire them to drive global change.
During the day, they heard from inspiring guest speakers at the forefront of change in Aotearoa – who talked about global injustice and fighting systemic injustice and climate change – and participated in breakout discussions and networking.
‘The scale of social problems in developing countries was huge, and shocking for all of them,’ says teacher Marwan Juma.
‘They also learned how indigenous communities (particularly in the Pacific) were working on innovative ways to solve their local issues like clean water, fighting climate change, food insecurity, and more. The big lesson was that everyone who can help, should help those less fortunate.’
The students returned inspired to do more – such as the World Vision 40 Hour Challenge – where participants go completely offline for 40 hours to raise money for great causes.
