MATARIKI CELEBRATIONS  |  FRIDAY 28 JULY 6-8PM   |  AT NORTHCOTE COLLEGE

The event was highly successful, and was attended by staff, students and whānau from Northcote College, Northcote Intermediate, Birkenhead Primary and Willow Park Primary.  The event empowered Māori student leadership and identity, and showcased Māori culture, modelling diversity and unity within our community. Thank you for attending, and thank you to our generous sponsors.

We are so exited about An Evening Under the Stars - the Matariki celebrations being held at Northcote College. Delicious hangi, kapa haka performances, activities for the kids, and workshops the whole family can join in on. 

We have a wonderful evening lined up, including:
⭐️ Matariki music
⭐️ Kapa haka performances by Northcote Primary, Northcote Intermediate, and Northcote College
⭐️ Hangi / vegetable soup for sale
⭐️ Arts and crafts for younger children
⭐️ Kōrero about the Matariki stars in the ‘Stellarium’ – with Teira Tohu
⭐️ Te Kapahu Whetu – Maori star compass – with Teina Kirikiri
⭐️ Mahi Rarangi – weaving – with Kiriana O’Connell
⭐️ Polynesian sailing and wayfinding
⭐️ Launch of Matariki earrings collection (fundraising for student activities)
⭐️ Year 12 and 13 business students selling their wares in the hall

For those coming along, please remember to wrap up warmly, and bring some money for the delicious kai.
