Hockey: Old Boys best students to win Prasant Nathoo Shield
The Old Boys vs Students Hockey on Friday night (13 June) was an absolute stunner!
Northcote’s 1st XI Boys Hockey team played against the Northcote College Old Boys team on the superb Cello 1 Arena at North Harbour Hockey. 28 Old Boys turned up to play – a fantastic turnout – including Kevin Lydiard, Narandra Uka and former 1st XI players going back to the early 1990's.
The 1st XI acquitted themselves very well against the powerful Old Boys team, leading 1-0 at halftime with a goal from Alex Hui (12CHN). They held this lead against the mighty Old Boys until late in the 3rd Quarter. The turning point was a brilliant save made by the Old Boys Goalkeeper Maia Rata to deny Alex his second goal. Straight after this Andrew Newby equalised for the Old Boys.
With the scores tied approaching the last 10 minutes, and a penalty shoot out looming, the Old Boys struck. Neo Tunnicliffe and Mace Gorringe (son of well known relief teacher Neil Gorringe and nephew of Scott Reed) scored to make the final score 3-1 and retain the Prasant Nathoo Shield for the Old Boys.
The young 1st XI can be very proud of their effort. Standout performers included Goalkeeper Nathan Phillips (10SHN), Liam Phillips (10PTR), Nick Whitby (12MFL), Dijon Thin (12CHN) and Joe Croll (13GRI).
A great evening had by all.
