Prime Minister visits Northcote College

Northcote College was privileged to host Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, and Minister of Education Chris Hipkins, at the school today.

And we are delighted to be able to share the news that during her visit the Prime Minister announced that the school will receive $60 million for a major redevelopment project. This is made up of $12 million announced earlier, and a further $48 million confirmed today.

The funds will build a new technology block (replacing the one which burned down several years ago), a 20-classroom building, a double court gymnasium and classrooms, and redevelop the music and drama facilities. The funds will also be used to renovate a number of significant heritage buildings on the site. The new buildings and facilities will enable the school to cater for a rapidly increasing number of students over the coming years.

‘This project will make a huge difference for the students in the future and for our wider community,’ says Northcote College Principal Vicki Barrie.

‘We have wonderful students and staff. It will be great to have fabulous new buildings and facilities for them,’ she says.

‘We are thrilled to be at this point. We will be even more thrilled when we have the buildings. For a long time we have dreamed of new buildings and updated facilities. We are delighted to know that our dreams are now closer.’
