Democracy in action

DEMOCRACY IN ACTION!

Students packed the hall today to hear from the parliamentary candidates for Northcote in November’s General Election.

From Year 13s excited to vote in their first election, to younger students also curious to hear about party policies that will affect their futures, it was wonderful to see such a strong turnout across all year levels. Many students stayed to talk with candidates afterwards, and asked some very perceptive questions. It was an inspiring display of youth engagement and civic awareness.

Thanks to candidates (as pictured on stage) Cody Marsh (Opportunity), Shanan Halbert (Labour), Bhen Goodsir (Green Party), Martin Lundqvist (Act), Daryl Habraken (NZ First), and Dan Bidois (National), for taking the time to come and speak with our students.

Kudos to the Northcote College Politics Club – including student moderators Sienna McPherson and Anastasiia Churakova – for organising this informative and memorable event.
