1st XI bowl Green Bay over

The Northcote College 1st XI Cricket team scored a satisfying victory in an away game against Green Bay High School 1st XI at the weekend.

Green Bay – a composite team of Green Bay High School, Elim College, and Parnell ACG – won the toss and batted first on a ground with short boundaries and a lightning fast outfield. With the score at 140-1 in the 22nd over things were looking dicey. But a strong fightback followed – started by Cruz Wilson's (10LD) debut wicket for the 1st XI – which saw Green Bay bowled out for 240 off the last ball of the 40th over. Sam Hazeldine (12TBN) took 2 for 40 and was magnificent in the field with two spectacular catches. He was ably supported by Aidan Smedley (10BRD) with 2 for 38 and Thanishk Allam (11DOR) with 2 for 48.

241 was a challenging but achievable target and Northcote chased it down with relative comfort, scoring 243-4 in 35.3.

Shiv Nair (11DOW) made his first century for the 1st XI, scoring a masterful 103 not out. It was a privilege to watch. He was ably supported by Mitchell Tucker (12KAY) with 31, Damon Rickman (12KAY) with 33 and Taine Victor (13UN) with 25. Partnerships of 42, 112 and 64 were the key to the victory, with Shiv the constant factor.

Special mention also to the excellent team spirit that is being fostered by team captain Nathan Lyndon (13UN) and vice captain Taine Victor (13UN).

A late finish at 6:45 pm but an excellent day at a beautiful spot.
