Cycling successes for Zoe & Blake
Wow – Zoe and Blake Nancekivell have outdone themselves – taking 2nd and 3rd places in the U20 category in the Great Lake 100 in Taupo.
The challenging 100km ride is one of a number events in the hugely popular annual Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge, which regularly attracts around 3000 riders.
Zoe took 2nd place in U20 women, and was 18th out of 75 women in her event, finishing in 4h2m.
Blake came 3rd in U20 men, and 48th from 160 men in his event, with a finish time of 3h52m.
‘I trained for about four months beforehand,’ says Blake. ‘I went for a ride every weekend, starting at 60km and working my way up to 100km. The actual race day was pretty good weather; it was sunny but not too hot, and there was a tailwind for the last half, which helped a lot.’
