Gabby & Laura represent NZ at Oceania skating champs

Welcome back, and congratulations to Gabby Pace and Laura Edney, who have been in Brisbane, Australia this week representing New Zealand at the Oceania Artistic Roller Skating Championships.

Gabby competed in the Solo Dance, Youth Grade, and Laura competed in the Solo Dance, Cadet Grade.

Solo dance focuses on intricate footwork, precision of footwork and a lot of balance! The category is competed across two events - style dance (where a set music theme and tempo is given and a pattern of footwork must be included) and free dance which has specific components to be included.

In the Cadet Grade, there were ten skaters – five from Australia and five from New Zealand. Laura achieved several personal best and ranked 8th overall.

In the Youth Grade, there were nine skaters – four from Australia and five from New Zealand. Gabby achieved a personal best in style dance and a personal best overall ranking of 6th.

Both girls train at Active Zone in Glenfield under coaches Macarena and Mercedes Carrascosa, who are both former students at Northcote college.

This November, Mercedes will be representing New Zealand at the Artistic Roller Skating World Cup in China.
