Junior A Girls Football - North Harbour Junior Champions
JUNIOR A GIRLS FOOTBALL – SENSATIONAL SEASON VICTORY!
NORTH HARBOUR JUNIOR CHAMPIONS
Woop woop! We’re so proud of our Junior A Girls Football team, who’ve had a stunning undefeated season with 12 wins from 12 games – and have now capped that off with a 1-0 win in the season final!
The Junior A Girls Football team, coach by Miles Ballard (13GRI), competed in the North Harbour Junior Grade this season. In the Regular Season Round Robin the girls won all 10 games to comfortably top the table. They had a most impressive goal difference of 76 for and 2 against.
Ashling Caulton (BON), Layla Straight (9BON), Charlotte Elias (9CE), Elouise Taurima (9SAV) and Captain Lily Clendon (10DIL) were all prolific goal scorers, while the defence was anchored by goalkeeper Yeva Butler (10SEN and Zoe Warren (10BTE).
The season then restarted with playoffs. In the 1 vs. 4 Semi Final the team played Westlake Girls Junior B who they had defeated 5-1 in the regular season. The Semi Final was much tighter with a second half goal from Charlotte Elias (9CE) off a superb Meika Kneijber (9SAV) corner the only score.
In the Final the team faced Albany Junior High School who they had beaten 5-0 in the first game of the season. The game was played today on the Bottom Field at Northcote and was a close and tense contest against an opponent who brought their A game, playing with great intensity.
An early goal from Elouise Taurima (9SAV) turned out to be the only goal, and although Northcote created the better chances, Albany were in the hunt to the end. Zoe Warren (10BTE) was superb in defence, and Layla Straight (9BON) was also outstanding.
The girls were elated at the finish, completing a 12 and 0 season, conceding only 2 goals. Most worthy Champions!
