Mānawatia a Matariki
MĀNAWATIA A MATARIKI FROM NORTHCOTE COLLEGE ✨
During the last week of term, we gathered before dawn to mark Matariki with a moving hautapu ceremony (celebrating early before the term break!).
With the Matariki stars glinting clearly over Rangitoto, Matua Stan Conrad opened the ceremony, and students Waihuia Thein, Krystal Hill, and Joelle Young led karakia. Together, we remembered loved ones lost over the past year.
We concluded with te whāngai i ngā whetū (feeding the stars), opening the hāngi to let the steam rise to the sky, before heading into our incredible new K Block hospitality suite. There, we shared a stunning breakfast representing the domains of the stars—from the land, the fresh waters, and the sea.
A beautiful way to remember the past, celebrate the present, and look to the future. Thank you to everyone who arranged this wonderful event, and to all who shared this beautiful morning with us.
